Plates Commemorating the
Transit of Venus

In commemoration of the successful observations by members of OASI of the Transit of Venus on 08 June 2004, Peter Grimer, a member of the Society, has commissioned production of a limited edition run of plates. The run is limited to at most 50 plates, each individually numbered. The plates, measuring 265 mm diameter, are of very high quality fine bone china. The front of the plates has a sky blue background and a depiction of the path of the transit across the solar disk, complete with realistic limb colour, and the Orwell Park Observatory tower watermarked in a darker blue. The edge of the plate is finished in real gold depicting the points of the compass. The reverse side of the plates carries the OASI logo. The plates come packed in a high quality box lined with blue silk and bearing an appropriate logo on the lid.

Commemorative plates

These exclusive plates are available at £35.00 each (including VAT) to members of OASI. Any member interested in purchasing a plate should contact me; I will place their name on a list which I am compiling before submitting the final order. Special thanks are due to Peter for his generosity in donating the first three plates produced to OASI – plate no. 1 will be mounted and hung in our library.
